Sub-District of Chillicothe,
Chillicothe, MO, Aug. 8, 1864
General Orders No. 1.
In pursuance of orders from Brig. Gen’l Clinton B. Fisk, Comd’g District of North Missouri. I have assumed command of the sub-District of Chillicothe, composed of the counties of Ray, Carroll, Caldwell, Livingston, Daviess, Grundy, Harrison and Mercer — Headquarters at Chillicothe.
Officers commanding companies of the 4th Provisional Regiment E.M.M. and all officers commanding E.M.M., in active service within said District, will at once report to these Headquarters the strength of their respective commands.
I earnestly appeal to all the officers and in active service, as well as all rood men citizens within my District, to assist me in carrying out to the letter, the order of the General commanding, directed to me for my guidance as follows, viz: “Uphold Loyalty– crush treason — exterminate the guerrillas with sure and swift destruction — maintain the laws — restrain violence and violators. Let every foot of your territory become a safe spot for peaceably disposed citizens to repose.”
These directions will be enforced for all my actions, and they will be enforced to the full extent of my power.
