ST. JOSEPH, Oct. 30th, 1864.
GENERAL ORDERS, NO. 7.
The General Commanding this District, takes pleasure in announcing to his command the killing of the notorious Bushwhacker “Bill Anderson” by a detachment of enrolled Militia from the 33rd, and 51st, Regt’s, and County Guards from Caldwell and Clinton Counties; all under the command of Lt. Col. S.P. Cox, 33rd, E.M.M., near Albany, Ray County, on the 27th instant.
The General tenders to Col. Cox and to the Officers and Men of his command engaged in this praiseworthy act, his heartfelt thanks and congratulations in ridding the country of such a blood thirsty villain as Anderson, who has been for months past a terror to the loyal people of Missouri, and he feels satisfied, that every well wisher of this country will join with him in this congratulation, and that the blessings prayers of many a disconsolate widow and orphan will ascend to Heaven for the future welfare of Col. Cox and his brave band.
This order will be read at the head of every command within the limits of this District immediately after the receipt of this order.
