For may years a small weekly newspaper was produced by Mr. and Mrs. Orlo Tedrick. A letterpress was used until later years when offset printing of the newspaper was done at Gallatin Publishing Company. Santa and Orlo eventually ceased publication in the 1980s.

Operating the linotype equipment was a vocation of patience. Here a press operator tinkers with another adjustment during the printing of the Altamont Times. This newspaper was operated by the Tedrick family from 1908 to 1983.

Santa Tedrick stands beside the “California type cases” holding lead letters for printing purposes at the Altamont Times. This newspaper was started by Leo Sharp in 1908. Two years later Barrett & Clark became the editors, succeeded by George G. Tedrick who changed the political stance from independent to Republican. The Altamont Times ceased publication in 1983 after the death of Orlo Tedrick, Santa’s husband.

Community interest was always high for the local newspaper; tours involving social and civic clubs were not uncommon. The Altamont Times was operated by the Tedrick family from 1908 to 1983.
