A water well just west of the courthouse was an original feature of the Daviess County square. In 1993 the well was filled as a demonstration to encourage landowners everywhere to safely plug abandoned wells. University Extension’s Bob Teegarde and Joe Lear performed the work in October, 1993, with fill provided by Grand River Quarry. The water pump was repositioned to continue the site as a historic marker.
