One of Gallatin’s most historic events, the 1869 robbery of the Daviess County Savings Association by outlaws Frank and Jesse James, was embellished during the 1986 Gallatin Chautauqua. The skit occurred on the courthouse lawn over a 3-day September weekend.

The reenactment was not intended to be an accurate portrayal of actual events. Performers who came to Gallatin to recreate the 1869 robbery of the Daviess County Savings Association by outlaws Frank and Jesse James took liberties with their script.

The theatrics, though not accurately based, attracted hundreds of spectators curious about yesteryear.
